This review is for “Gorilla at Colossal”, the reason I bought this disc. In 1954, the 3-D craze was at its’ peak–especially with panic films and this included the gorilla movie as panic factor. 1954 saw “Phantom of the Rue Morgue” and “Gorilla at Tremendous” pawing their intention into theaters in 3-D and Technicolor, with better than average budgets. “Gorilla at Stout” is area in a seedy carnival around a lurid sideshow called “The Garden of Harmful” where comely trapeze star Mlle. LaVerne ( a young and graceful Anne Bancroft paying her starlet dues) swings seductively over a gorilla pit where mankiller ape Goliath reaches for her, threatening to yank her down at any moment. LaVerne’s haunted and hot-tempered husband (a stoic Raymond Burr) jealously oversees her act and LaVerne. He also manages the carnival. Two problematic things occur: a hunky current stuntman for LaVerne ( a young, hunky Cameron Mitchell) for a perilous recent thrill in her act and a brutal kill. The slay shuts the carnival down and brings in a hardnosed cop (Lee J. Cobb) . Everyone suspects Goliath and his horrible trainer when another execute occurs. But there’s more than meets the view in the “Garden of Obnoxious”. This is a well made, delicious thriller with two gorillas. One a stunt man in a unpleasant gorilla suit and the other being Goliath. The stunt man is supposed to step in at key moments in LaVerne’s act when the ape gets too end to thrill the audience. The carnival atmosphere is bright, lurid and gleaming. The acting is above par as is the cast—a young Lee Marvin has a comedy relief role as a insensible lanky cop. The 3-D effects are noticable with Goliath and the dizzying carnival rides. And there’s a astonishing scene where Goliath goes on a rampage through the deserted carnival one night inadvertantly setting off the rides, causing the whole park to reach alive like a stunned fairgrounds. Later, he reaches through a window for a screaming Bancroft as she lies seductively clad in a sexy negligee. The cheesecake factor with Bancroft is rampant throughout. This IS a beauty and the beast myth afterall but one with a twist—it’s also a slay mystery. Who’s committing the murders Goliath or someone in the stunt suit? And will Goliath finally have at the teasing seductress LaVerne? Sight this for cheesy but fun 50’s thrills and see as soon-to-be-stars pay their dues in a gorilla movie. “Gorilla at Titanic” is a worthy time capsule from the 3-D 50’s complete with a better than average cast, in lovely Technicolor and preserved in a nice print on this disc. Worth owning for ancient Hollywood star watchers. Appreciate. And don’t manufacture Goliath indignant….

Enter Andy Norris (Perry King) a music teacher sent from a far more prestigious school to back reinvigorate Lincoln High’s flailing music department. Filled with a sense of purpose Andy first comes across the musical prodigy Stegman and thinks he can succor bevel Stegmans rough “punk” edges and churn out a radiant pianist.

Much to Andy’s surprise Stegman is not so easily swayed and lashes befriend against Andy in every procedure possible (let alone imaginable) .

The gloves are off between students and teachers in CLASS OF 1984, and there is no room for second dwelling.

I have been a fan of this movie, since seeing it in the theatre’s when it came out. I was a young teen at the time, and had to sneak into the theatre to survey it. I loved it, and was stupefied by it at the same time. Can’t say that about too many movies.

I currently have two versions of the movie, one a copy of the former VHS Tape that I got from a video rental place; and a copy off of network TV, from the mid-eighties. Sadly, the network-TV copy had less editing done to it language-wise (alot less surprisely), while being edited only for the violence and nudity. I always felt both versions I had fair didn’t equal a complete version. I am really delighted they decided to release this movie now.

Since this hasn’t yet been re-released yet, I don’t have a copy of it yet. So I will stammer you a few general things though about the movie, not the DVD release, and my thoughts on it.

One is that it is a cult movie. People will either really like or really disapprove this movie. “Class of 84″ is excessively violent (while normally I don’t like over-the-top violence, in this case it drives the myth well), the acting is not the best (although Timothy Van Patten was really honorable, and very chilling), the set was very simple, the characters had cramped depth to them, there was a rape scene (certainly not the most graphic I’ve seen in a major release, but chilling neverless) BUT the movie came together rather well.

“Class of 84″ also had some respectable music on the movie. Opening with “I Am The Future” by Alice Cooper, also with tracks by Dismay and Teenage Heads among others.

I can’t wait for the DVD of this movie, and will salvage it when it comes out. I only hope it is a helpful quality release, with a lot of extra’s.

Also, if you like this movie, “The Warriors”, or “Bladerunner”, there is a book I unprejudiced read last month called “Blue Goblins” that you might want to check out. It is all about gangs, violence, drugs, and sex, situation in an apocalyptic world. I would recommend it highly.

*Look for me to edit my review once I rep my copy of the DVD, to contemplate more what I felt on the modern release.

Fritz Lang was one of the world’s directing treasures, yet too few people know his name. With credits such as M, Metropolis, The Woman in the Window and The Ample Heat (as well as many smart lesser-known, often German-language films), he helped to *invent* many genre conventions that are now cliches. He is also one of two filmmakers who really influenced Hitchcock in concrete ways (Val Lewton being the other) .

In many ways Cover and Dagger is ahead of its time, and in others it is disappointingly dated. It offers several titanic scenes but loses its plan several times as well. It starts out with some overly pretentious scenes as American nuclear scientist Gary Cooper is approached to benefit the Allies rescue a intelligent scientist held gradual enemy lines. Then there are a couple of nice fights and some salubrious direction and rising suspense as the mission gets underway. Then, it becomes a account of Gary Cooper meeting and falling in appreciate with Lilli Palmer, a devoted but despondent member of the Italian underground fighting in WW2. But this is not really the memoir that the early portions had been building up to, so while the middle share is not terrible, it is slower and seems out-of-place. Then when we return to the action of the Allied team rescuing a scientist held by fascists (none of which we stare, hurting the film a lot), the impressive final shootout lacks the impact it should have had. And the movie takes a like a flash, easy map out of the area, nullifying distinguished of the suspense that had again been achieved and leaving a sour taste.

So despite all its dinky triumphs, Cover and Dagger has to be classified a near- miss.

P.S. The best scene involves a struggle between Cooper and someone who has found him out. He has to preserve the man from shouting for assist to the policeman honest outside. And then a cramped girl’s ball bounces down the steps toward them, and she runs to retrieve it. How will our hero derive out of this snappy and quietly enough to neither alert the cop nor get the girl cry…? As the title suggests, Mask AND DAGGER (1946) is a study movie that fictionally depicts the exploits of the OSS (Office of Strategic Services), the intelligence arm of the US Army and the precursor of CIA. In this movie director Fritz Lang makes of Gary Cooper a physicist and sends him to Switzerland to score and bring home a foreign scientist who’s working on the atom bomb. When that scientist is killed by enemy agents Cooper goes to Italy to extract yet another scientist whose sympathies are with the Allied cause.

There’s are some extraordinary elements to Veil AND DAGGER that made it hard for me to warm up to this movie. Cooper (as Prof. Alvah Jasper) is, we’re told, working on the Manhattan Project when the OSS chief picks him because `he’ll know what to perceive for’, whatever that means. Maybe it means he can allege the inequity between pitchblende and heavy water. You’d judge whoever was working on the Manhattan Project was a lot more vital in the lab than in the field, especially when about all he does, spy-wise, is conduct a suited kidnapping. Heck, Richard Conte or even John Ireland could do that for you, and at half the stamp - not that Conte or Ireland are in this one, but this movie doesn’t need or add to the luster of a star of Cooper’s stature. According to a biography of Lang, Conceal AND DAGGER was intended to be Lang’s warning against atomic research. That would justify why Lang has Prof. Jasper go on and on about the power contained in an apple - why, there’s enough energy locked in an apple to blow up this campus! This city, even! C&D was supposed to demolish with an impassioned anti-atom speech by Jasper which, according to the Lang biography, was filmed and subsequently sever out and destroyed by the releasing company. While in Italian Jasper meets and becomes the charge of delicate young resistance fighter Gina (Lilli Palmer.) Gina might have been able to resist the charms of a Conte or an Ireland, but you don’t mix a fine young with a superstar like Gary Cooper, leave them alone and not inquire sparks to flee, embers to glow and flames to erupt. The romantic subplot more or less hijacks half the movie and all the grand stuff in the movie happens when Cooper and Palmer are alone. They regain the best scenes, including a charming night in a respectable house with a forlorn kitten yowling outside the door.

The quandary - problems, really - stem from the limp action. Lang handles the foreign agent paranoia stuff well enough. Things ain’t what they seem. Carelessly tossed matchboxes or a brace of nuns collecting for the dreadful can be deadly menaces. There are a couple of well choreographed fight scenes, but the anxiety never becomes imminent enough and the romance never quite believable enough to work. I reflect Lang was trying for a lump in the throat when Gina and Jasper part a `We’ll always have Paris’ scene. That scene leaves one a bit cool, and, as usually happens when such things fail, you resent the director for so blatantly trying to manipulate your emotions. It’s probably for the best that the studio loped off the anti-atom ending. One misfire ending is enough for any movie. This one didn’t need two of them.

Mask AND DAGGER is an okay movie, probably best helpful for fans of Gary Cooper or Fritz Lang. I don’t know if there are a lot of Lilli Palmer fans out there, but she’s the best thing in this one. I’m a astronomical fan of Lang’s and I’m slowly completing my collection of his available titles. Lang’s deliberate reach to storytelling doesn’t bother me considerable, but this one was a dinky too lifeless and diffused even for me. The print is in respectable condition, the disk contains no extra features.

Season 2 is the final outing of Eli Stone, and many viewers will have many questions unanswered. However, we do know that Elis visions in Season 1 reply some of those questions [check through them and you'll stare what I mean!]. It is a pity that ABC couldn’t punt one more breath in for Eli Stone but the DVD has been long awaited.

If you liked Eli Stone Season 1, dig into your pockets for Season 2, and you will not regret it. If you got into Season 2, I recommend taking a step encourage and discovering the whole fable. And if you’re reading this without having watched a second of it, try an episode. It will leave you feeling like you gotta have faith.

Okay, we have unbelievable actors that not only can act but roar…A tale line that keeps you guessing, and action and charitors that hold you intrested…And what does ABC do with this demonstrate? Does it give it a chance? Nope, Eli Stone went with the procedure of Pushing Daisies and Life on Mars. At least now I have this unbelievable point to on DVD and will now ignore anything else ABC puts out; like “Attend I’m a Celeberity find me Out of Here”…Suited God.

I was lucky last year in that I got to discover End Bill volume 1 weeks before it was released last year. I concept it was one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen on film and went on to observe it eight times in theaters. I even chose it as the best film of 2003. Surpassing even the much Lord of the Rings. Something I view would never happen. Me being a mountainous Lord of the Rings fan.

So with such high praise for volume 1 my hopes were very high for volume 2. And it more than delivers. Where volume 1 focused more on the action and was posthaste paced. This one is at a slower scamper and is more dialogue driven. Which is what Tarantino does best anyway. At approximately two and a half hours it is also a lot longer than the first one. Don’t inconvenience though End Bill volume 2 is not without it’s fraction with titanic fight scenes and memorable novel characters. The most memorable is Pei Mei the martial arts master who trained the bride and the other members of the Insensible Viper Assassination Squad. Played wonderfully by Gordon Liu (who also played Johnny Mo in volume 1) Pei Mei even over shadows the grand Hattori Hanzo played by Sonny Chiba in volume 1.

Other memorable performances approach from Michael Madsen as Budd a.k.a Sidewinder and David Carradine as Bill. Madsen gives another Mr. Blonde caliber performance as the ancient assassin turned trailer park alcoholic. Claustrophobics select caution the confrontation between Budd and the Bride is really intense and very claustrophobic. Darryl Hannah is deliciously tainted as Elle Driver. She’s about as faulty as can be. What should be well-known is the fight between Elle and the Bride. What is unquestionably one of the most knock down, dawdle out, intense fights ever set to film. Tarantino pulls no punches here. Tall credit should once again be given to the sound department on this one. You can almost feel ever blow. It is the best fight in the whole of Ruin Bill.

Never seen and only heard in volume 1 we finally bag to sight the performance we’ve been waiting for. David Carradine is of course sizable in the title role. He plays the role with such a laid attend ease. Both intimidating and cold. You don’t know whether to sympathize with the guy or detest him.

Those who said Uma Thurman deserved an Oscar nomination last year will probably say the same thing this year and then some. Where Thurman was praised for the intense action in volume 1, in this one she really goes all out. No longer a nameless assassin out for revenge she is now with a name (to be revealed in the film) and is now seen more as a person then a nameless killer. Not that the nameless killer thing was a unpleasant thing. It was a gigantic action role. This time the emotions arrive out. Thurman really lets herself go in the emotional scenes. Well satisfactory of a nomination.

So is Slay Bill volume 2 a great conclusion? Absolutely. Is it as action packed as volume 1? No. But that’s not a abominable thing because we pick up more of the huge Tarantino dialogue. Was there anything I found snide with the film? Well, there was one petite thing. The credits go on forever. So if your like me and you like to sit through the credits you’ve been warned. Waste Bill volume 2 will not be without it’s enemies. Those who didn’t like volume 1 will probably not luxuriate in this one. If you’re a fan of volume 1 then you should be more then cheerful.

Several months ago, eclectic director Quentin Tarantino regaled our senses with a visceral thrill-ride known as “Extinguish Bill: Volume 1″. This first half of Tarantino’s legend story of revenge introduced to the enigmatic venerable assassin known as the Dark Mamba (Uma Thurman) and the circumstances that led her to embark on a quest to `kill Bill’. Mamba miraculously survived an assassination by Bill and his new hit squad (although her entire wedding party was murdered), only to raze up in a coma for four years. Once she regained consciousness, she began to sincere brutal vengeance on those responsible.

In “Vol. 1″ she took out Vernita Green/”Copperhead” (Vivica A. Fox) and O-Ren Ishii/”Cottenmouth” (Lucy Liu) . The revenge was purely physical and graphically brutal. It was a veritable assault of visual images and thrilled the audience with the completeness and thoroughness of Mamba’s revenge. Fascinatingly, “Destroy Bill: Volume 2″ is a drastically different film even though it continues the same legend. “Vol. 2″ takes a more philosophical arrive to Mamba’s revenge, whereas “Vol. 1″ was the more physical arrive. While more talkative possessing less action, “Vol. 2″ is no less effective than “Vol. 1″. What “Vol. 2″ brings is the rest of the epic that “Vol. 1″ rightfully left out. In this concluding episode, we now know more about the history between Bill and Mamba. We learn more about why Bill ordered Mamba’s assassination. Tarantino showed that he had this talent when he made “Pulp Fiction”. “Ruin Bill” is the next step in the evolution of Tarantino’s work. Where he goes from here is anyone’s guess, but it has the potential to be spectacular.

This is exceptional. I have seen Ladysmith Sunless Mambazo in performances on video….but I had petite knowledge of their history, and the history of their music. This video will allow you to allotment the history of the group.

I borrowed this from a library, and liked it so great that I bought it. Devour it…and, as the Amazon editorial says….thought the extras!!!!

I fair saw them earn live last night and picked up this DVD to occupy home and piece with my son. I was very disappointed there wasn’t more uncut footage of them singing and dancing! The interviews were nice, but almost no song segments were longer than a couple of minutes…very frustrating!!!

A noble anime series should have likeable characters, strong state, reliable music and should leave you begging for more until the series extinguish. Record of Murky Heaven Volume 2 Region Truckin does this like any rock and roller would, loud and aggressively.

While the first volume did a gracious job introducing the various characters, Oji, his wife and son, Ms. Yuki the location agent vixen, her three bubbly associates and the rest of the gang, Volume Two is where the series really really grabs the viewer. Spot Truckin’ is exactly what Sage of Dusky Heaven needed to sustain the viewers interest.

Oji has been continuing his guitar playing for the location hastily however when the original song he devises fails to activate the smart weapon, the fact that he has been customary by the posthaste to waste the enemy is revealed to him and he quits. Now Ms. Yuki and her agents must accelerate to convince Oji that he must choose the guitar and the cause benefit up in order to hold their hasten and prevent the war from spreading to Earth.

Space Truckin’ made me really feel for Oji. While Volume one made me like him and want him to relieve protect the mercurial and fix things up with his family, it wasn’t until he realizes that he is fighting that the sympathy was truly there. The viewer is swept up in his feelings and we root for his return to the guitar when he puts it down for what he claims is forever.

The art seems to have improved over Volume One, with the unfamiliar panning effects being not as noticable. However the area battles seem tacked on quality wise. I like that Pioneer is trying to expand it’s art into the computer generated realm but compared to the rest of the art, anything happening in status does not feel lawful and does not seem to fit.

The verbalize acting is better than normally expected and each character takes on a believable dub that is fairly stop to the recent voices though the dubbing does remove liberties with the fresh script. The myth is aloof presented strongly but watching the dub with subtitles on can compose for animated times where what the character is verbally saying and what they were originally saying can differ a favorable deal.

The music continues to be one of the best parts of this series. Though Cautionary Warning is aged extensively, when Oji debuts his fresh song the quality of the music increases tenfold. Sage of Gloomy Heaven easily demonstrates how great a soundtrack can be when dilapidated properly.

If you have not yet picked up the first volume, rob it and this one if only to win to the second volume, it’ll be worth the investment.

The second volume of this incredibly bizarre but surprisingly icy series is an emotional one, to say the least. Lead character Oji Tanaka finally finds out the truth about the “unusual nightclub” he’s been visiting most every night to play his guitar. Not only that, but he also finds out that the music he’s been playing isn’t needed for the music itself; only for the sound it makes. Sound confusing? If so, then you should’ve watched Volume 1. Anyway, this volume of “Dusky Heaven” is an improvement over the first; the chronicle starts getting resplendent inspiring by the kill of the last episode, and I concept the animation was a diminutive better as well, though it’s quiet honest below average. The computer-coloring helps it out, but not distinguished. But, as before, the appeal’s not in the animation, but in the yarn itself. If you’ve seen volume 1, you know what I mean. This is a expansive series with an absolutely awesome hard-rock soundtrack, and I’m rubbing my hands together awaiting the next installment. Watching this series got me started listening to the music of both Michael Schenker (who happens to be Oji’s “idol”) and John Sykes, who performs the opening theme. (Isn’t it grand when anime opens up doors to novel musical worlds? ) All you anime fans out there, support your eyes on this one. It comes with a high recommendation for unbiased about anyone who’s into the big-eyed cartoons.

Relentlessly optimistic, drunk and defeated, man-child, sponge-man — this movie has it all. Most of the parents in the audience didn’t acquire it. But I’ve been an outspoken SpongeBob fan for years. Hell, I’ll bet I like the television present even more than my children do — and they like it a lot.

It’s hard to narrate this film, at least in a plan that will do it justice. Is it titanic? In it’s absorb zigzag, surreal intention, clear. It’s littered with double entendres, to be positive, and a few nautical butt cheeks, too. I deliver the studio insisted on the latter. The bottom line is that we need SpongeBob, maybe more than we ever did. His great cheer in the face of anguish is downright inspirational. Plus, he can blow bubbles with the best of them.

The controversy over SpongeBob’s sexual orientation has been quite arresting but nowhere reach as moving as this very comic movie based on the well-liked TV series on Nickelodeon. Meanwhile, Spongebob and his shadowy witted friend Patrick must fade to the dreaded Shell City to recover the King’s crown and terminate Plankton before it’s too unhurried.

Featuring a genuine cast of guest voices including Jeffrey Tambor (”Arrested Development”), Scarlet Johansson (”Lost in Translation”), Clancy Brown (”The Shawshank Redemption”), Alec Baldwin and, of all people, David Hasselhoff, the film may lack the sparkle of the best episodes of the series but it more than makes up for this shortcoming with a number of witty gags. Kids will appreciate the antics of SpongeBob and Patrick while adult males will empathize King Neptune’s attempts to camouflage his bald situation with his crown (he’s desperate enough to resort to Hair in a Can at one point although that doesn’t quite work out as planned) and envy David Hasselhoff as he uses his pecs to commence the duo encourage into the sea. There’s also a serious message as Mindy the King’s daughter encourages SpongeBob and Patrick to be kids and be OK with it.

Featuring a mountainous transfer with incandescent and shining colors, Bikini Bottom has never looked so, well, engrossing. A very exciting transfer with few digital artifacts to distract viewers from the absurd images, “Spongebob” looks better than any sponge has a legal to. I’m really begging with Amazon to not confuse The original Superman II: The Richard Donner Crop, with the fresh Superman II: Richard Lester version because both of these are completely different films & should be treated as such.

1st thing people who truely consider that Richard Lester is a broad director & did a grand job on SII need a reality check. All he did was select an already large script done by SUPERMAN I creative consultant Tom Mankiewicz, and 70-80% shot by Richard Donner shift around some stuff & design the film (all the actors were there for him, a donkey could have done it) .

Lester would also add some unneeded slap stick humor (e.g. Metropolis fight scene where the three desirable villains exercise their neat breath to blow out the Metropolis civilians where after an unneeded and very cheesey moment of slap stick dreadful homage to Charlie Chaplin stances rob plot & the earlier scene of when the supervillains are introduced by duking it out in the American wild west??? ) .

Lester would be found out as a director in the abominable Superman III where his slap stick humour would basically kill the film but not to say his version of Superman II is terrible but it unprejudiced doesn’t compare to the brilliance of number 1, especially after repeated watchings II unprejudiced seems like a awful boys substiute!!

Donner on the other hand had completely different thinking for II it was meant to be on the same myth scale & feeling a I & in quality terms match it if not even better it. Having already seen some of the unique scenes, e.g. Lois jumping out of the window of The Daily Planet to proove that Clark is Superman, The fight with The Natty Villains over Metropolis, some of the fresh Brando scenes, & Lois’s tearful farewell, it’s determined that this film will be entirely different from the unique theatrical realise of SII & should be treated as an entirely different film not attach as if it’s unbiased a normal directors gash of an already realised film!!!

There is mammoth character development, particularly in the Lois/Clark/Superman savor triangle, and plenty of action to maintain the viewer happy. The visuals are mostly on the same level as the first movie, although the destruction of the Phantom Zone and the defacing of Mount Rushmore peek delicate cheap. John Williams’ safe fetch is cannibalized by Ken Thorne, conducting what sounds like a high school orchestra. So, overall, while inviting, the movie lacks the myth scope of the first film, and is far less memorable.

The letterboxed DVD looks handsome is unspectacular. The sound is flat and unimpressive. Warner has packaged the DVD in their usual cheap snapper case.
